Since December 16, 2019 to avoid any incidences of drowsy drivers behind the wheel among many other unwanted situations on the road, all carriers must use ELD ("Electronic Logging Device") system.
ELD consists of a several parts: a vehicle tracking device which connects to the truck, fleet management software and a mobile app, that can be downloaded to the mobile phone or tablet.
A good ELD is one that keeps a consistent and accurate record of every driver's hours of service (HOS). The HOS is the maximum amount of time the driver is allowed to be under the wheel.
The driver or the carrier can edit an ELD log to fix a mistake or input missing information. For example, if a driver forgets to change his status to off-duty while unloading or overnight stop.
Drive safe!
